HHoK Community Kitchen

Hooghly, West Bengal: “I don’t need a God who doesn’t feed a hungry child today but promises a heaven tomorrow”

This statement by Kamal Hasan is old but has made a profound impact on us during the trying phase of the COVID outbreak that we are all going through. It’s not something which did not exist before but seeing the situation now, we had made up our mind to do something about it. We started the community kitchen, not just for migrant workers or for the period until Corona exists, but for life.

The HHoK Community Kitchen went live at Uttarpara. We currently serve 50 people daily (one meal in the day for starters). To do this, we primarily need your assistance in the following ways:

  1. Your monthly financial contributions. Any sum will be more than welcome. Just think of it, a 500
rupees contribution/ month can feed 42 people (based on our calculations). The sheer impact your
500 rupee note can make is unparalleled.
  2. Help us to identify people who need to be fed. Or help us identify NGOs or food banks who can
tie-up with us and collect the meals from our kitchen and distribute it to the hungry.
  3. Volunteer to be a part of this initiative and help us distribute the meals in places near our kitchen.

We sincerely request our connections to come forward and make a contribution in cash or you can directly donate rice, pulses, mustard oil, turmeric powder, or you can even sponsor a gas cylinder every month. The ways in which you can help are endless. You just need to have the intent to do so.

This Community Kitchen started on the 1st of June, 2020 serving 1500 meals per month. With your support, we can have a bigger impact and ensure that no one sleeps hungry. As we speak, we have served more than 4500 meals and still counting.
